Speeches

Hi, how is your day going.

Yesterday we presented our speeches. mine was about Commercial cray fishing. I think I did alright but I didn't get into the top 8. this is my speech.
Hello my name is Arlo and I am here to talk to you about Commercial cray fishing boats.

Have you ever been fishing and every 15 meters you see a craypot? boi well I have. My dad is a scuba diver and he goes into the deep dark cracks of the ocean looking for crayfish. But there are not too many down there anymore. Sometimes he gets none, but his usual catch is 2 or 3.  Grand dad fishes the west coast up north, he gets about 4 or 5.

Firstly because commercial fishermen are very greedy, you know what I'm saying.
Secondly I think they should be able to get a certain amount a day like 50 and they’re only allowed 20 pots.

Thirdly because they sell them for over $100 each which is such a scam for example who's been to Mangonui fish and chip shop?  They sell their crayfish for $140 that's about as much as a crayfish pot so what I'm saying is get your own crayfish pot and do it yourself.

A normal commercial fishing vessel is about 25 to 40 meters long and 5 to 10 meters wide. I’m not saying to ban the commercial fishing boats I'm saying to reduce down their limits so it is more sustainable, I want to be eating these when I’m old!   In cray 1 which is from Cape Reinga to Auckland they are allowed to get 147 tonnes a YEAR that is 147 elephants an average crayfish is about 500g so that's 789,000.  I think that every cray fishing boat should reduce their limits down to about 20 tonnes a year How ever,  people love crayfish and they're happy to pay $140 but I'm not. So they should reduce it down to $50 who agrees. That means you can get 3 crayfish for $150. Thanks for listening to my speech, happy crayfish eating! Ko tena wiki.
